This course is meant to provide the diver with the skills and knowledge to conduct a non-invasive survey of a submerged historical site. The class will include the following:
- a basic introduction to maritime archaeology and a brief history of the field
- archaeological site ethics adapted from the Society for American Archaeology ethical principles
- introduction to ship terminology so that common terms are used among divers during survey and recording
- Underwater equipment and considerations for diving
- Introduction to methods and practices including traditional underwater recording and photomosaics
