Join Herbalist Leslie Alexander, PhD, RH (AHG) for a series of nine classes beginning in August on Medicinal Herbs and Herbalism. Learn the basics of herbalism and make healthful teas, decoctions, oxymels and vinegars; some classes require a fee and pre-registration, see below.

August 18, 11am-noon (no fee or registration)- Medicinal Herb Walk in the TREC Garden– Learn how to identify common medicinal plants.

August 31, 1-3pm ($25/person)- An Herbal Medicine Chest Workshop– Learn how to stock your own medicine chest with the basics; participants will leave with a medicinal herb product. Pre-registration and pre-payment required, call Beth at (814)833-6050 for details.

September 17, 10am-noon (no fee or registration)- An Introduction to Medicinal Herbs– Join us as we discuss what “medicinal herbs” are and learn about the benefits of using plants in your daily health routine.

September 17, 12:30pm-2pm ($25/person)- Teas and Decoctions Workshop– This class will explore preparation methods, taste, herbal sources and recipes. Participants will make a custom tea blend. Pre-registration and pre-payment required, call Beth at (814)833-6050 for details.

September 17, 3-5pm ($25/person)- Making Herbal Tinctures Workshop– Learn how to store fresh & dried herbs by using this method; an essential herbal technique. Participants will leave with a preparation for home use. Pre-registration and pre-payment required, call Beth at (814)833-6050 for details.

October 22, 10am-noon ($25/person)-Making Herbal Medicines for Wintertime Ailments Workshop– Participants will taste teas, decoctions, tinctures and vinegars and leave with sample preparations to help support our immune system during the winter months. Pre-registration and pre-payment required, call Beth at (814)833-6050 for details.

October 22, 12:30pm-2pm ($25/person)- Herbs for the Mouth– This workshop will explore the use of herbs for oral care; join us for a tasty adventure! Participants will leave with oral care preparations. Pre-registration and pre-payment required, call Beth at (814)833-6050 for details.

October 22, 3-5pm ($25/person)- Making Vinegars and Oxymels with Medicinal Herbs– Vinegar and honey are often used to preserve medicinal herbs, learn how to make these at home! Participants will leave with medicinal preparations.Pre-registration and pre-payment required, call Beth at (814)833-6050 for details.

December 6, 1-3pm ($15/person)- Medicinal Herbs Aboard Ships: Maritime Health for Sailors– Sailors used medicinal herbs to treat ailments while at sea…set sail for a bit of history and a lot of fun as we taste and prepare our way through a voyager’s experience!
