Weed Warriors

Weed Warriors of Presque Isle State Park Mission/Who we are:

Weed Warriors is a volunteer program that helps protect Presque Isle State Park from the threat of invasive plants by focusing on the identification, removal and monitoring of these plant species.

Who Can Join:

Currently, Weed Warriors meet every Tuesday from 10am to 11:30am at various locations on PISP and Erie Bluffs State Park during the field season (May-October). Anyone can join our group by emailing Jen Salem, Coordinator, at jen@regsciconsort.com. All volunteers must be registered in the PA DCNR volunteer database prior to participation.

Our Projects:

Weed Warriors focus on the manual removal of many invasive plant species, including Oriental Bittersweet, Garlic Mustard, White Sweet Clover, Purple Loosestrife, Flowering Rush and others. We work throughout Presque Isle and Erie Bluffs State Parks to target areas of special concern, including wetlands, medians, beach locations and hiking trails. The Weed Warrior program also provides an opportunity to learn about native plants and wildlife, resource management and conservation ecology.
